Happy #WorldHumanitarianDay! If you’re looking for a way to forward a cause you believe in but aren’t sure how, we’ve put together a list of areas you can help out in through one of Total Resources International’s partner organisations, Vision Himpossible Ministries.
There are over 150 million children all over the world ages 3 to 5 who do not have access to pre-primary education, including more than 80% of children in low-income countries, and approximately 1 in 3 primary school-age children globally are not learning the basics in reading and mathematics.
If you want to help give these kids a chance at a better education and a better life, you can partner with VHM’s education arm, which believes education extends beyond the classroom and encompasses all aspects of life. VHM works with several organizations and sponsors to provide underprivileged children with better opportunities and brighter futures. These sponsorships provide each child with school enrolment fees, books, and personal hygiene kits. Click here to find out more.
Despite efforts to fight world hunger, poor nutrition still causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five. That’s 3.1 million children each year. 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world.
In the Philippines and other developing countries, many children who live in poverty are malnourished or underweight. VHM’s child feeding initiative is a multi-step program designed for these children to reach their ideal weight within 3 to 6 months. Simultaneously, a nutrition class is provided for their mothers, teaching them to prepare healthy meals on a budget to sustain their child’s health after completing our program. There are an estimated 140 million orphans globally in 2015, including 61 million in Asia, 52 million in Africa, 10 million in Latin America and the Caribbean, and 7.3 million in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
VHM’s orphan outreach arm works closely with orphanages and non-profit organizations in the Philippines and Mexico to ensure a safe haven for rescued and abandoned children. The orphanages are staffed with medical professionals who give physical and psychological care to orphans of different ages, from infants to adolescents. Stay tuned for part two of the list next week!
